Meditating in the WORD
What is it? Why do we do it? What does it produce?
Lets talk about the WORD first. The Bible is the inspired Word of God. This means literally “God-breathed” Godly men wrote as they were moved on by the Spirit of God. It is a true record of what happened. I was reading in Ezra where he presented a letter written by Artaxerxes- allowing Jews to return to Jerusalem. So the Bible contains an accurate testimony of events. The things uttered by men under duress, and even seeming contradictions are the reason the Word must be rightly divided. We are commanded to study it for our own education and edification (building up) (Acts 20:32; 2 Tim 2:15)
The Word is given to us a food to our spirits. We can have it stored in our minds- but the POWER of it is when it abides in our spirits and causes an ignition! Jesus used the Word in battle with the enemy! So now we are looking at what is meditating in the Word? And are all believers expected to do it?
Read Psalm 1.
1:1: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 1:2: But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 1:3: And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 1:4: The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
1:5: Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 1:6: For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Meditate means to mull over- or to chew on- like a cow chews the cud. Now that is not a very pretty picture for us, but think about it.
Also Proverbs 4:20- Ps 107:20- Healing power in the Word. The WORD never fails!
God’s Word is like a hammer, milk for babes, meat for men. It is like a mirror –to reveal, a sword for offense, bread to feed, fire, water to cleanse (Eph 5:26) . A seed to grow and produce results! The WORD never fails. But it has to be mixed with faith! Since faith is of the heart / spirit / inner being / belly /guts / conscience.
The Word gives us assurance of salvation (John 5:24). Its reveals our inheritance and covenant benefits! (Ps 103; Acts 20:32) It reveals the parameters of the covenant, and of God’s grace and love toward us in Christ! It reveals the past, present and future state of men: The reward for the righteous, and punishment for unrighteous rebels to God’s plan! Since Our GOD is the Most High- no plans could be better, more perfect! To rebel from this is pure suicide. All those who think they have a better plan of life are mistaken! I talk to people all the time who try to invent their own concept of ultimate justice. But God’s is Supreme! When you get this revelation of the Most High- then you will acquiesce to Him! Only the designer/producer of a thing knows the full potential, the purpose of the thing created! To Him alone is due our reverence/submission!
We meditate because this is the only way for the Word to grow in us! It is my spiritual food- life to my spirit. I use it to fill my mind also- but the power is it in my spirit! God dwells in the spirit of the believer. To the degree that a correct understanding of the Word is there- then God is not limited. Where there is ignorance of His will- He is limited. This is man’s world- and until the Perfect Man appears to reclaim it- there will be opposition/ resistance from the flesh-realm people.
Practical meditation: turn off the TV, get out Bible, Bible dictionary, paper pencil, or computer and read and write. Look up a subject, a word, investigate, read, ask God for enlightenment. This is seeking Him. Seeking His Word! His Will revealed to man. Lord, help me divide this properly. Listen to sermons, teaching. See who cares for people, helping them. See the teacher’s: lifestyle, actions, manner of life. Read the Word several ways: Straight thru and Psalms or Proverbs, Gospels, New Creation realities: Ephesians, Colossians.
Find out what these things mean: salvation, life, death, heaven, hell, eternity, dispensations, Ages to Come!
